THE STORY BEHIND THE SMILE

Last week, I went to my first Catholic memorial mass for one of my dear neighbors who was a special friend.  She was old in age but young in heart.  Over the years we shared stories of laughter and tears.  The mass was beautiful as the person it was honoring.  I was crying not necessarily just in sadness but in happiness that I was blessed to know this beautiful woman as a friend for many years.

Tonight, her daughter invited me to her Mom’s home where she presented me from her family, a handmade crochet lap blanket which my friend made.  Her family put me in trust and care of this very heartfelt possession as to thanking me in being a good friend to their Mom.  I am honored and humbled to have received this heirloom.  We sat and shared stories of this beautiful person she called Mom and I called my beautiful friend.  I hope we will continue to celebrate my friend’s life with all the wonderful memories she left us.

Bless you my friend, you’ve definitely earned your place in heaven. Until we meet again.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SMILE

Visiting her always brought a smile,
Even in my darkest days she found light.
Reflecting her own life, she shared stories,
About her journeys, filled with optimism.
The tales she shared took me back in time yet,
In many ways connected to my life.
She soon became family and always
Celebrated her faith daily with prayer.
Her call to Heaven was answered before
Leaving me a chance to say my goodbye.
Ending her stories shared with a smile,
Reminding me how blessed I truly am.
